[Battlefield 2] Battlefield 2: netGameRadio Battlefield 2 $8000 tournament

On the 20th of July this year, netGameRadio launched a Battlefield tournament of epic proportions. For the first time since Battlefield 2 launched in Australia and New Zealand, an enormous $8000 in cash and prizes would be up for grabs only for the most skilled and determined gamers.

Over 320 players and 13 teams signed up, and became enthralled in Battlefield gaming at its best. Jets, Tanks, Infantry, Choppers, it was all in the make up to create a tournament which not only showcased Battlefield at it’s best, but how online gamers could indeed handle themselves.

The format is 16 verses 16; teams would prepare themselves for an 11 round tournament. Those lucky enough to make it through to the finals would be in the running for the prizes.

With the $5000 cash component being provided by netGameRadio itself, Electronic Arts also stamped their seal of approval on the tournament by providing over $3000 of product for listeners of the station. The leader-board can be found here.

The tournament has now moved in to preliminary finals time, which will be shout-casted by netGameRadio. Two matches will be played on Thursday, 8PM, Australian Eastern Time, where the winners from both matches will play off in the ultimate grand final, Sunday night. netGameRadio will have a special pre-game show lined up going live at 7PM AEST.

The tournament further solidifies netGameRadio’s support of both the Battlefield franchise, and online gaming. Founder and owner of netGameRadio, Russell Norman, said “The Battlefield IP has been and will continue to be, one of the best First Person Shooters ever released. We wanted to harness this by giving Australian and New Zealand players an opportunity to play competitively combing both the successful vanilla Battlefield 2, and the extremely popular Special Forces expansion. It has been a tremendous success, and as netGameRadio continues to be at the fore-front of e-sports and competitive shout-casting, we look forward to future similar opportunities”.

Business Marketing and Public Relations Manager, Johnny Griffiths, has been ecstatic with how the tournament has flowed. He stated “Shout-casting Battlefield 2 has been an epic adventure. Seeing teams evolve, and have the opportunity to play competitive Battlefield for the first time in several years, has been a huge leap forward for the e-sports scene locally. We can’t wait to see what future opportunities will arise from our venture, and look forward to our international friends listening in to our massive grand final event this Sunday! A big thanks to all our sponsors, including Electronic Arts who provided over $3000 in listener prizes for the event, of which we will be giving out over the next few days! Check out http://www.netgameradio.com for all the information!”
